March 97 cover

On This Month's Cover:

A late-night fire swept through a plastics recycling plant in Vernon, CA on November 6, 1996. First companies found a one-story, 125x100-foot metal-clad structure fully involved. The fire extended into thousands of cardboard boxes filled with plastic waste. Five alarms brought comapnies from Montebello, Santa Fe Springs, Lynwood, Downey, Compton and Los Angeles County. A Los Angeles City engine dispatched for dubbish in the area discovered the fire was impinging on several buildings within the city of Los Angeles, and requested five task forces and five engines. It took 200 firefighters about seven hours to control the blaze. Extensive overhaul lasted several days.
