LAS VEGAS

Las Vegas Valley firefighters practiced for this year's Firefighter's Tower Run Wednesday.


They have to run up 108 stories of the Stratosphere, which is more than 1,400 stairs.


The run is to raise money for the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation. It will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

This month on Fire Marshal's Corner, host Ed Comeau looks at the residential sprinkler issue, following up on last month's show. Legislation was introduced recently in Texas in a last-minute attachment to a bill that would bar communities from allowing residential sprinkler ordinances or code adoptions. This definitely sneaked in under the radar screen and the fire service in Texas mobilized in response, holding press conferences in both Austin and Plano to draw attention to the bill and ask the governor to veto it.

A number of bills have been introduced in state legislatures and the fire service is rising to the cause and working hard to make sure that profits are not coming ahead of public and firefighter safety.
